Advantages: Fun Short Story

Disadvantages: Small Writing

Mr Good is number 46 in the Mr Men collection. He is an oval shaped man and is white in colour. He wears a green top hat.

The cover of the book is white and has a picture of Mr Good and the title of the book above in black lettering. The back cover of the book has smaller pictures of the other characters available in the collection.

THE STORY

The book begins by telling us a bit about Mr Good, how he always makes his bed, cleans his teeth and wipes his feet. He never slams doors or forgets birthdays and he is always very good. Mr Good lives in Badland where nobody likes him. Badland is a place where people do slam doors and slam them in your face. Also in Badland the puddles are very deep so you fall into them, a dogs bite is worse than his bark and even the trees are bad.

Mr Good was out for a walk on a very horrid day as the weather was always bed in Badland. He was walking behind a man when his hat blew off and Mr Good jumped up to catch it, the man turned round and demanded that Mr Good give it back to him. This sort of thing always happened to Mr Good, If he ever offered to carry someones shopping for them then he was accused of stealing.

Mr Good was not very happy, he was in fact miserable so decided to go for a very long walk to think about things. He was walking along as was so deep in thought that he dumped into them. Mr Good stammered an apology but would the man he bumped into be rude and bad to him or would Mr Good finally find another good person?

MY OPINION

This is a fun short story in the Mr Man collection. My boys enjoy listening to the story and it is only short so can be read in under 5 minutes which makes it an ideal bedtime read.

The words are all very simple and easy for even young children to understand. The illustrations also help to keep younger children involved in the book. The illustrations are all very nice and bright and help to tell the story.

The book is laid out in a very simple was with the text being on plain white pages on the left hand pages and the illustrations on the right hand side pages. The text is quite small which may put beginner readers off from trying to read the words but with encouragement my eldest is now trying to read them and is doing quite well.

INFO

The book was written by Adam Hargreaves and was published by Egmont UK Limited.

The retail price of the book is £1.99 but we picked up our copy for £1.49 in out local Wilkinson's store.
