Advantages: good and fun short story
Disadvantages: small writing
Mr Greedy is number 2 in the Mr Man collection. He is a rounded shape and has a very large tummy. He is a bright pink colour.
The cover of the book is white and has a picture of Mr Greedy and the title above this in black lettering. The back cover of the book is also white and has smaller picture of the other characters available in the collection.
THE STORY
The book begins by telling us that Mr Greedy loved to eat, but the problem is that the more he ate the fatter he became and then the more hungry he would become and so he still ate more. He lives in a house which they describe as a roly-poly sort of house, very much like Mr Greedy.
The story then begins with Mr Greedy waking up, earlier than usual and he was feeling hungry as he had been dreaming about food. He went downstairs and ate a massive breakfast. The book then lists the massive breakfast which he ate. When he had finished eating he sat back and thought about the wonderful delicious breakfast he had just eaten then he started to think about what he was going to have for lunch. He decided that he would go for a walk so that he could build up a nice appetite.
When he was out on his walk he came across a cave which he had not seen before and being a curious sort of person he decided he would go and explore it. He started to walk up the massive stairs and was getting very out of breath. At the top of the stairs he came across a massive door. This certainly was the biggest door he had ever come across.
What did Mr Greedy find inside this massive door and would he build up a nice appetite for his dinner?
MY OPINION
This is another fun book in the collection. My boys enjoy listening to the story and learning how much Mr Greedy eats. The story has been written in nice simple words which makes it easy for younger children to follow. The book is also accompanied by nice bright illustrations which I find help to tell the story and also help to keep my 3 year old involved in the book.
The writing in the book is quite small which may put some newer or beginner readers off from trying to read the book by themselves but my eldest is now doing very well reading them to me and his brothers.
The book has been laid out in a very simple way with the writing on plain white pages on the left hand side of the book and the illustrations on the right hand side. This and the other books in the collection are only short and they can be read in just a few minutes which makes them ideal bedtime stories or books for if you are short on time.
