When I was younger, I always used to take Mr Men and Little Miss books into school for the teacher to read to the class at the end of the day. I'd passed them on to my silbings however, and recently stumbled across them when I was holidaying. I decided to give some a read, and opened up book number 41, 'Mr Grumble'. Mr Grumble is a purple character with a constant frown. In his story, Mr Grumble wakes up grumpy. When a wizard appears by magic and casts a spell on him, something begins to change. Mr Grumble is an oval shaped man who is a purple colour and wears a green hat. He always has a miserable face and a frown on his forehead. He is number 41 in the collection. The front cover of the book is white with a picture of Mr Grumble and the title in black letters above and the back cover of the book is also white with smaller pictures of the other characters in the collection. THE STORY The book starts by telling us that Mr Grumbles name suited him as when he woke each morning he would grumble about it being the start of another horrible day. Mr Grumble is the 41st of the popular Mr Men children's books created by Roger Hargreaves. The books were a favourite of mine when I was a child, and now my son loves them as well. The author started writing them in 1971 after his son asked him what a tickle looked like and he drew it, resulting in the first book in the series, Mr Tickle. His son, Adam, continued writing and illustrating the stories after Roger's death in 1988, and this is the second of those. Mr Grumble is a small purple man with a pale green hat and a miserable expression. And the man cannot stop grumbling. His neighbours are fed up with him grumbling all the time.
