First off, the title relates to the understandable restrictions that are placed on drivers for their passengers; seatbelts, booster seats etc. Mr Gumpy's escapades, outlined below just wouldn't be possible nowadays which was cleverly pointed out by one of the children I read this story to. - The author - John Burningham has been writing and illustrating children's books for decades. After studying at the Central School for Art he began designing posters for London Transport. His first children's book, 'Borka: The Adventures of a Goose with No Feathers' won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1963 as did his book 'Mr Gumpy's ...
