Advantages: Brilliant story

Disadvantages: NONE

Mr Clever is number 28 in the Mr Men series, which is a collection of 46 stories written first by Roger Hargreaves and then later by his son Adam.

The book is square in shape and white in colour. On the front is a picture of Mr Clumsy himself and above this picture is his name written in block, black capitals. Mr Clumsy is an oblong shaped character that is green in colour. He is rather messy looking and the laces on his orange shoes are untied. As well as this his hair is very wild and his moustache overgrown and untrimmed.

On the back of the book you will find smaller pictures of all the characters within the series, each with their number and their name printed below. This is a great feature because it means that you can easily keep track of the stories that you have read and the ones that you have left to read.

On opening the book you will see that this story follows the same printed format as all the others. It has writing on the left hand side and wonderful colourful pictures on the right hand side. This format is great for young children, as it enables them to follow the story through the pictures and therefore ensures that they are constantly engaged in the book.

The story itself begins by telling us that it was a lovely bright morning but in a scruffy looking house in the middle of a field somebody wasn't up. That somebody was Mr Clumsy. When his alarm finally went off he reached out to switch it off and knocked it off the table. He then pulled the knob off the radio and finally tripped down to the stairs.

The same day Mr Clumsy went into town to do some shopping. As you can imagine, him being clumsy and everything, all he actually managed to do was cause a lot of chaos. The book continues by cataloguing his many clumsy accidents and makes a very humorous read.

This is a great story for children because it is fun and entertaining and so introduces them to the world of reading as an exciting subject and something, which they want to continue. Furthermore because the book is one of a large series this also encourages children to continue on their reading journey and so broaden their reading ability hopefully to the point were they can read the stories to you rather than the other way round.

The story is relatively short and simple enough for children to understand and so is perfect for reading at bedtime or any other time when you have five or ten minutes to spare.

This book has an RRP of £2.50, which I think is very reasonable for such a great story. However it can be purchased for less if you shop around a little bit, your local supermarket being a great place to start.

Summary: Another greadt addition to the library
