Advantages: Fun festive book with the Mr Men
Disadvantages: None
The Night Before Christmas is a new Mr Men book which is part of the 'with added sparkle' collection. The cover of the book has a picture of Father Christmas in his sleigh with Mr Christmas. The back cover of the book is white and has small pictures showing other titles available in this collection.
The book starts by telling us it was the night before Christmas and everyone was prepared for Christmas day, well everyone except for Mr Wrong who though it was the night before his holiday. All of the Mr Men had decorated their houses except for Mr Muddle who had decorated himself and everyone had sent their letters to Father Christmas except for Little Miss Late who had only sent her letter that morning. Would Father Christmas get her letter in time?
In all of the Mr Men's houses they had baked cakes, Mr Greedy had baked 3!, the sticking were hung by the chimney. All of the presents had been wrapped and the carol singers had sung at each of the houses.
At the North Pole Little Miss Christmas had wrapped all of the present, she had spent all day doing so and now the sleigh was nice and full. Mr Christmas and Father Christmas got into the sleigh and went on their way. Would they have Little Miss Late's letter in time and would they take her something nice?
The book then moves on to show us all of the Mr Men and Little Miss characters fast asleep in their beds dreaming of the following day and wondering what Father Christmas would bring for them. Well everyone except for Little Miss Late who was waiting to see if Father Christmas would stop at her house. Would he stop or would her letter be late?
This is a wonderful festive book which feature lots of the familiar Mr Men and Little Miss characters. The book is only short and can be read in about 5 minutes but it does take me a lot longer as we do stop and talk about all of the pictures.
The story has been written in nice and simple words which makes this book ideal for new and beginner readers. The text is on plain white pages on the left hand side of the book but the text is a bit on the small side which may put some children off reading this independently. The pictures which accompany the story are all nice and bright and do help to tell the story. My 4 year old does have fun telling me the story from the pictures!
My 6 year old does read this book by himself and finds it very easy to do so. He does not mange to read the whole book in one sitting as he likes to look at all of the pictures so he only reads a few of the pages each night in bed.
The book was written by Roger Hargreaves and published by Egmont UK Limited. The retail price on the back of the book is £2.99. My little men had this book as a gift from their Great Grandma and I know she managed to pick it up in a 3 for 2 offer so do shop around for a bargain.
Other titles available in the 'with added sparkle' collection include:-
Mr Happy and the Wizard
Mr Noisy and the Giant
Little Miss lucky and the Naughty Pixie
Mr Strong and the Ogre
The collection has been so called as the cover of each of the books has been decorated with glitter and are more colourful than the ordinary book in the Mr Men and Little Miss Collections.
I do recommend this book for all Mr Men and Little Miss fans and also children who love Christmas!
