Advantages: very entertaining, cheap

Disadvantages: too many green hats

I can remember sitting in assembly as a four year waiting excitedly to hear another story. Every morning our headmaster would read us another Mr Men story. I can still remember me sat on the floor with my curly hair in ribbons giggling away with my friends at Mr Tickle and the rest of the gang.

They were created in the 70’s by genius Roger Hargreaves.

I guarantee most people could name at least one of the wonderful Mr Men. I am sad and can name just about every one. For those of you who are not Mr men literate I will explain each ones appearance.

Mr Tickle – He is orange with big arms, big enough to tickle all girls and boys. He has a little blue hat.
Mr Greedy – Mr Greedy eats everything in site and is big and red.
Mr Happy – He is one of the most popular characters and is yellow with a big smile.
Mr Nosey – He is green with a big nose.
Mr Sneeze – He is blue and looks very spiky and has a red nose.
Mr Bump – My nephew has a t-shirt with Mr Bump on it and loves it. He (Mr bump not my nephew) is blue with bandages wrapped around him.
Mr Snow – He looks like a snowman. I cannot remember him from my childhood but my fiancé assures me that he was around.
Mr Messy – He looks like a red kids scribble with a face.
Mr Topsy Turvy – He is orange with a yellow hat and walking stick
Mr Silly – He is yellow with an orange hat and he is very silly!
Mr Uppity – He is brown and wears a brown hat
Mr Small – Mr Small is red with a little blue hat and he is obviously small.
Mr Daydream – I like Mr Daydream as he reminds me of myself. He looks like a big blue cloud and is constantly daydreaming.
Mr Forgetful – Another one that reminds me of myself. He also forgets everything and he is blue with a red hat.
Mr Jelly – He is red and wobbly and looks like strawberry jelly. (yum!)
Mr Noisy – This i
s the big red one with a big smile and big brown shoes
Mr lazy – This is the one that I wish I could be more like. He spends most of his time lying down and is flesh coloured and wears a blue hat.
Mr Funny – I really like this guy. He is green and wears a hat with a big flower coming out. He also wears shoes that remind me of the ones you have to wear when going bowling.
Mr Mean – Keep away from Mr Mean. He is blue and thin with a yellow nose. Somebody bought me a pair of socks a couple of years ago with Mr Mean on and I have to say I was offended. I am not mean really! (Please believe me)
Mr Chatterbox – Sounds very familiar, just like me. He is red with a big black smile and a green hat.
Mr Fussy – He is green with orange shoes and a yellow nose. I often call my dad Mr Fussy, as he is the fussiest person I know.
Mr Bounce – This guy looks like a small version of Mr Happy and wears a red hat. He spends most of his time bouncing up and down. If only I had the energy.
Mr Muddle – poor Mr Muddle is forever muddling things up. He is green and wears a red hat.
Mr Dizzy – He is always dizzy and falls over a lot. He wears a blue hat.
Mr Impossible – He is Purple and wears a blue hat.
Mr Strong – He is very very very strong and looks very square. He is red and wears a green hat.
Mr Grumpy – This one reminds me of one of my old school teachers. The only difference is my teacher is not blue and doesn’t wear a green hat. (He is pink and wears a yellow hat!)
Mr Clumsy – He reminds me of myself when I am on my period (Hormones). He is green and wears orange shoes. I think he is the only one from the gang who has a beard and a very airy head. By this description I do not mean I am hairy and turn green at the time of the month. I mean I am very clumsy. (Just thought I would clarify that with you)
Mr Quiet – SSHHHHH, be quiet. He is small and yell
ow with a little tuff of hair (aahh bless)
Mr Rush – Probably the most abnormal looking Mr men of all. He looks like a big purple triangle and wears a yellow hat – enough said)
Mr Tall – He is blue with very long legs and wears brown shoes.
Mr Nonsense – I may spend half the day talking nonsense but this guy constantly talks rubbish. He is yellow with a red nose. He wears a green hat, blue gloves and blue shoes.
Mr Wrong – He is the guy that is always getting things wrong. He is red and wears a brown hat with a big flower. He also wears odd gloves and odd shoes so is very easy to recognise.
Mr Skinny – I really am envious of this guy. No I don’t want to be yellow and I don’t wish to wear a red hat but I wish I were as skinny as him.
Mr Mischief – He is yellow and always has a big mischievous grin on his face. He wears a red hat so beware.
Mr Clever – He was the first of the Mr Men to have glasses (as all clever people do!). He is orange and wears a green hat.
Mr Busy – If you fancy a chat with Mr Busy you may have a problem. He is always busy and may struggle to fit you in. He is blue and wears a red and white hat. Every time I look at him I think of Billy that fast boy in the Beano.
Mr Slow – he is a mustardy colour and has a little white moustache. He wears a green hat.
Mr Brave – He looks quite out of place in comparison to the others and you can tell he was created more recently. He is yellow and wears glasses. He also wears a red and green baseball cap so he is one cool dude.
Mr Grumble – He is purple with a green hat and constantly grumbling.
Mr Perfect – I like Mr Perfect and have bought my fiancé Mr Perfect boxer shorts, keyring and socks. He really is perfect with his centre parting and his red nose.

And not forgetting Mr Cheerful – he is orange with a yellow nose and wears a yellow and blue hat.

Now I have identified them all you will know who they are if they spot them down the street.

What I like about the Mr men is the fact that you can always associate yourself with one of them. I would like to say I am like Mr Perfect, Mr Funny, Mr Strong, Mr Quiet, Mr Clever and Mr Skinny but unfortunately if I am honest about myself I could be regarded as Mr Chatterbox, Messy, Happy, Daydream, Forgetful, Chatterbox, Fussy, Clumsy, and Mr Worry. Oh dear the list is endless.
I think the Mr Men are still popular with children especially the younger ones. They only cost £1.50 and are well worth it as they get lots of use. My nephew Luke has only got four of the books but he is getting to the age where he likes looking at the pictures and imagines he is reading them. If you get all of them in the collection and put them in numeric order the binds spell out My Mr Men Library.

Roger Hargreaves is also responsible for the Little Miss. There is not as many of them and some have very similar names to the men but they are also newer names picked especially for girls such as Little Miss Giggles and Little Miss Naughty.

I think they are all cute and will definitely be buying my nephew and niece more books in the future.

My sister (Mr Bump) is trying to collect the whole set for her daughter (Mr Chatterbox) - she loves them so much that she even had them on her wedding invitations!! Great op - I loved reading it.
