Advantages: Fun, simple drawings and stories.

Disadvantages: Some of the stories are a bit dubious.

I'm a 26 year old primary school teacher, and although I don't read many Mr. Men books to the children in my class, I too agree that they are classics.

I remember reading the series of books when I was a child, and it makes me very happy to say that I have started reading them to my own daughter, who is 2 in October. Although she cannot yet understand the stories or social morals behind them, she loves the simple felt-tip style drawings and the fact that they are small enough for her to look at herself. The Mr. Men themselves are usually just one colour, and have a distingusihing feature to help identify them from the others, eg. Mr. Bump's bandage, Mr. Sneeze's red nose.

Yes, some of the stories are a bit silly, but I reckon Roger Hargreaves had some of his friends in mind when he wrote the books - I'm sure we can all identify with Mr. Nosey, who gets his nose clipped by a clothes peg (my personal favourite).

As with all good things, there is usually a sequel, this came in the form of the Little Miss books. No doubt to be politically correct, these are not half as good as the originals. A good thing about these books is that when you have the full set, a message is displayed across the spine, so it looks great on your child's bookshelf.

Whenever I visit car boot sales, I tend to pick up ones I haven't got for about 20p, far better (and cheaper) than buying them new from a bookshop, and you have more fun looking.
