Advantages: Easy reader for children

Disadvantages: None really

Mr Tickle is the first book in the series of 46 Mr Men books. First published in 1971. It is written by Roger Hargreaves. A loveable character is he. Mr Tickle has extraordinary long orange arms attached to a round orange body, always has a big smile on his face and wears a small blue hat. If you didn't know, Mr Tickle lives in a place called Happy Land. He is a very clever chappy, having those long arms come in very handy sometimes.

The book I am reviewing is the paperback version and has 18 pages in total split between writing and pictures. We bought our copy for £1.49 from our local Sussex Bookshop, though the back of the book says its RRP is £1.99. We bought the book recently due to his popularity with my son after watching the new Mr Men show on Milkshake weekday mornings at 7:30 on channel 5.

The story starts with Mr Tickle at home in his small house asleep, it explains briefly what tickles are and how they have very long arms. This part of the book makes a great moment to show your kids what some tickling can do! It always makes my boy laugh. He wakes up after having a funny dream and feels hungry. You see Mr Tickle is so clever he doesnt even have to leave his bed, he just reaches his long arms all the way down his stairs to his kitchen and raids his biscuit tin. After making his bed and had his breakfast he sets off looking for someone to tickle.

First he finds a school and puts his arms through a classroom window and tickles a teacher, hiding everytime the teacher looks to see who is doing it. Then a poor unsuspecting policeman causing a traffic jam. He then goes round the town tickling a greengrocer, railway guard, doctor, butcher and the postman. After a long day of causing havoc tickling half the town workers Mr Tickle returns home and laughs to himself about all the people he has tickled. The end of th book goes onto warn those amongst us that are ticklish that to beware of Mr Tickle as he could be just round the corner waiting to tickle you with those very long arms.

The book is an absolute favourite with my eldest son, he loves the humour and how tickling people can be funny but also naughty if done in the wrong situations, it has taught him that sometimes certain actions can cause bad accidents. So a good moral to this story. There are a few paragraphs on each page which makes the book easy to read and accompanied by some nice colourful illustrations of each character being tickled. All in all a great book.

The book also advertises a Mr Men website at www.Mrmen.com.

Summary: A great book with a great moral.
