Advantages: A Great fun book, the first in the collection

Disadvantages: small writing

Mr Tickle is number 1 in the Mr Men collection. He is a round shaped person with exceptionally long arms and is orange in colour. He also wears a blue hat.

The cover of the book is white with a picture of Mr Tickle at the bottom and the title above in black lettering. The back cover of the book is also white and has smaller pictures showing the other characters available.

THE STORY

The book starts with it being a warm sunny day and Mr Tickle is in his house in bed. We are told that there is such a thing as a tickle and that they are small and round and have arms which stretch and stretch and stretch.

Mr Tickle is fast asleep in bed where he was dreaming of something funny which made him laugh out loud and wake himself up. He woke up feeling hungry so he reached on of his exceptionally long arms around the bedroom door, down the stairs, opened the kitchen door, reached into the cupboard, opened the biscuit tin and took out a biscuit and he took his arm and biscuit back up to his bed. He sat in bed eating his biscuits and looked out of the window and decided that today was a tickling day.

After he had eaten his breakfast and tidied away he went out for a walk trying to find somebody to tickle.

Would Mr Tickle be able to find someone to tickle or would he spend the day looking?

MY OPINION

This book is loved in my house as my boys get lots of tickles when we are reading it together. The story is told in nice simple words which makes it easy for young children to understand and follow.

The book has lots of nice bright illustrations which help to keep the boys involved and they are helpful to see just how long Mr Tickles arms are.

The book is set out in a very simple way with the writing on plain white pages on the left hand side and the illustrations on the right hand side. The writing is quite small which means that my eldest does not try to read the book independently which is a shame as they would be great books for beginners as the stories are fun and short.

The story can be read in under 5 minutes so this is an ideal bedtime read.

INFO

The book was written by Roger Hargreaves and published by Egmont UK Limited.

The retail price for this book is £1.99 but they can be picked up for £1.49 IN Wilkinson's and they are still available on offer in Morrison's with 2 books for £2.00.

MR Tickle is number 1 in the Mr Men collection and there are 46 characters in total each having their own book.
