Mutant Message Down Under, by Marlo Morgan was first published in 1994 and is an account of the author having spent four months crossing the outback with a group of aborigines, or Real People, as they are referred to in the text. This is probably going to be one of the most difficult book reviews, with a controversial rating that I have ever attempted. Ultimately this is certainly one of those books that can be read on different levels, and appeals on different levels. I have in fact read this book twice. A friend lent me this book which I read from cover to cover in a day or so. It was so intriguing and full of wisdom, written in an easy-to-read style. According to the author, this is a true story of what happened to her in the Outback, which she has written as a novel to protect the tribe she was with. I don't want to spoil your reading pleasure by going into detail here. However, I will tell you that the story is about a woman who goes 'walkabout' with an aboriginal tribe and gives beautiful insights into basic truths about life.
