Advantages: a good read, easy to follow, free
Disadvantages: could have been funnier
Imagine you’re a journalist. You’ve been asked to write about the celebrities and where they hang out. This means meeting all the stars you have previously only dreamt about meeting and getting to go to all of their parties. This also means getting to see all the film premieres before all of your friends and getting to know all the gossip. There’s free drink involved and also you get paid. Can life get any better? At first Abigail Long thinks her job is a dream come true. She begins to develop crushes for the stars themselves and seems to forget who her real friends are. She meets Jack Morris; the new Leonardo and they seem to get on like a house on fire. He introduces her to his friends and invites her to more parties. The trouble is where celebrities are involved there are usually drugs and Abigail seems to dive straight in. She starts to enjoy getting stoned with Jack and likes the late nights. Everything seems to be going well for her until one night. This one night changes her life forever. From this point on her life is a roller coaster, full of ups and downs. Her best friend is Wendy, a presenter on This Morning. Their friendship is quite strong and it really does get tested throughout this book. There is also Colin and James, two other close friends. James has a crush on Abigail throughout the book although Abigail doesn’t quite twig on. One person Abigail is scared of is her boss Gavin West the Deputy Editor of The News. At the beginning of the book she is quite scared of him and gets really nervous when she is called into a meeting with him. As she changes so does her attitude towards her boss and soon her feeling change. I quite enjoyed this book and found it funny. She has a good writing style but I felt as if the ending was too predictable. As this book is predictable I feel as if I cannot let anymore details out as it will give the story away. Until reading this book I had neve
r heard of it but I am pleased I read it and even more delighted that it was free in the first place with an offer from the Sunday Express. This is Imogen Edwards- Jones first novel although she does write for a variety of newspapers and magazines as a freelance. After reading this I will read more of her future work as she kept my interest. ISBN 0-340-76736-7 341 pages, 13 chapters
