I bought this book in honour of my other half this fathers day, he has a bit of a complex over being a good dad and thinks he's failing so this was the perfect little book to give him from the kids. Now I know it's a kids book but it seemed a great way to reassure him that the children think he's great and to get him reading the occasional bed time story to them. "My dad is brilliant" is published by Walker Books and written by Nick Butterworth, famous for such childrens books as "One snowy night" and "Percy the park keeper" It is a 12 page paperback book featuring fabulous illustrations and large bold print, perfect for early ... This nice little book focuses on the often overlooked dad! I read it proudly to my son. It is basically a list of some of the good things about dads from a child's point of view. It's a simple yet touching tip of the hat to dads everywhere. The language is simple, and there are very few words in the whole thing. Each page has around 7 words on it, meaning you can finish it in two minutes flat. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but be prepared by having another book on stand-by would be my recommendation. The illustrations don't fill the whole page, which I always feel is a shame; the books that have full page illustrations are much more exciting ... Read the complete review

My Dad is Brilliant by Nick Butterworth is one of two books that worked their way home to us recently, alongside 'My Mum is Fantastic'. You can get a copy of this book for £4.49 from Amazon, though we were lucky to be given a copy for free. My Dad is Brilliant is a book for children aged three years and over, and is probably suitable for early readers up to around seven or eight years old as well. Ideally, it's suitable as a book to read aloud to young children so that they can look at the large print words as you go. It helps to encourage early reading skills without their having to actually try to read themselves. The text is quite short and ... Read the complete review

This book is written by Nick Butterworth and was first published in 1989 by Walkers books. It retails at just £4.99 and in my opinion this is a good bargain. The book is all about a young boy who thinks his dad is............yes, you've guessed it 'brilliant'. Every page is filled with a different action that the dad can perform and it basically concentrates on highlighting dad's in general. When I was a little girl, my dad was like superman. In my eyes what ever he said was 'gospel' and there was nothing that he couldn't do. I love the fact that this book takes that very concept and puts it into a basic and understandable read for young ... Read the complete review
