Advantages: one for the dads
Disadvantages: none
This nice little book focuses on the often overlooked dad! I read it proudly to my son. It is basically a list of some of the good things about dads from a child's point of view. It's a simple yet touching tip of the hat to dads everywhere.
The language is simple, and there are very few words in the whole thing. Each page has around 7 words on it, meaning you can finish it in two minutes flat. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but be prepared by having another book on stand-by would be my recommendation.
The illustrations don't fill the whole page, which I always feel is a shame; the books that have full page illustrations are much more exciting to look at for kids. I admit that the illustrations in this book are nice, but they would be so much better if they were full page. The illustrations are pen drawn with watercolour painting, in the old-school style of so many kid's books. It's nice to see.
One thing I would recommend is trying your local library for this title. My wife takes our boys every few days and gets around 8 or 9 books. The great thing about children's books is that they are so easy to read that you can get through 50 a week if you've got the energy, which keeps it exciting for the children. As this book is a major title, it's likely your local library will also have a copy.
If you do want to buy it, the soft-cover that we have is £4.99, but do bear in mind they are prone to bending across the middle, so it might be better to splash out that little bit more and get a hardcover copy.
All in all, this is a nice simple little book that will be over very quickly, but is well worth having if not just to bring some attention back to daddy.
