Advantages: A great bonding time for dad and kids.
Disadvantages: A bit short
This book is written by Nick Butterworth and was first published in 1989 by Walkers books. It retails at just £4.99 and in my opinion this is a good bargain.
The book is all about a young boy who thinks his dad is............yes, you've guessed it 'brilliant'. Every page is filled with a different action that the dad can perform and it basically concentrates on highlighting dad's in general.
When I was a little girl, my dad was like superman. In my eyes what ever he said was 'gospel' and there was nothing that he couldn't do. I love the fact that this book takes that very concept and puts it into a basic and understandable read for young children.
The book is very basic and easy to read with only a few words on each page. The words relate to the picture and it's very easy for a young child to almost read the text without actually reading it because of this fact.
The pictures are funny and drawn in a cartoon-like style which portrays all of the characters as being friendly and happy people. I love the fact that each page has a white background and there is very little detail going on in picture so it stands out much more than usual. I would say that the illustrations are almost what you would expect to see in a cartoon strip in one of the big newspapers as they look like they would be more for an adult than a child, having said that it doesn't taint the fact that this book is clearly for children and seems to work well.
I love the fact that each action that the dad performs is is rather vast which shows that he can do literally anything. When Noah and I read it there was a lot of scope for us to perform what was going on in the picture too which not only gave us a bit of a laugh but it also got us off our butts and got us moving a bit!
Noah adored this book and when his dad came through the door, he presented it to him proudly and they both sat down and read it together. He enjoyed studying the pictures and reading it both by himself and with someone especially his good old daddy!
This book was not only a simple but entertaining read, it helped in providing some special 'father and son' bonding time. I would definitely recommend it to everyone and I think it would be a brilliant present for a brilliant dad!
I f you liked this one then you can also find 'My mum is fantastic', 'My Grandma is wonderful' and 'My Grandpa is amazing' which are also written by the same author.
Summary: An amazing story that will appeal to all dad's.
