Advantages: Makes you think of lots of dilemmas for the characters

Disadvantages: Avoid if you don't like social /medical ethics issues

There have been lots of media attention in the past 2 years about families who want to have a young sibling for a child who is an exact tissue/blood match so they can be a donor, to ensure that this elder child doesn't die of some fatal disease. These cases have gone to the House of Lords in the UK with various outcomes.

However if the outcome is successul, in the fact that a younger tissue matching sibling is born, what happens when the child learns that their conception was not the norm? How does this child feel? Do they have the right to refuse to be a donor?

If you look around you, you may discover children who have spent their entire childhood being treated in hospital for some life threatening diseases with various degrees of success. You may think to yourself if I was in that situation would have I wanted to go through all that painful treatment? Would I have had the right to refuse treatment?

If you suffer from a disability and can cope with it, how do you feel informing people about your disability? Do you feel stigmatised when you tell people due to old wives' tales and the media perception of what your disability makes you do?

This book covers these issues using as the main protagists a family with 2 sisters. The plot in some parts is predictable however there are a lot of interesting twists and turns to grab your attention.

Summary: A book that proposes medical ethics questions
