Advantages: well written and thought provoking

Disadvantages: could be upsetting for people in a similar situation.

i read this book in paperback last year and although i enjoyed it , it did leave me with more questions than answers. I have 2 children myself and before i read it i could not imagine using one as a human guinea pig to ensure the life of the other. But the book left me feeling that yes, maybe although i would do everything within my power to save my child, what message would that give the donor child? Would i try to have another child specifically with the intention of making that child a tissue/organ donor?Very thought provoking.
As for Picoult's writing itself, i found all of her characters very well rounded and i was sympathetic to all of the central chacters.the fact that each chapter was told in narrative by a different character enhanced the writing of the book as you could genuinely feel what they were feeling.I thought the ending of the book was a real treat, the chapter written as it were by the recipient sister, the only time her feelings are actually made known.I wont spoil the twist for those who havent read it yet, but i was genuinely suprised, and i cant say that about many books, as i find so many are predictable.

Summary: a very enjoyable read
