Advantages: beautiful read, great story and very well written

Disadvantages: the ending for me was personlly written wrong

Having had to cope with the loss of a loved one through cancer I could'nt wait to see the film, which I must say I absolutly loved, and being me I have to read the book to a film if I know there is one that goes with it. The film was great in showing the complexity of family relationships when dealing with a tragedy such as cancer. Having expericenced cancer first hand I know all too well about how cancer turns lives upside down and how peoples true characters show themselves which was great to see in the film and read in the book. I loved how the author put true thought and knowledge into the writing to make it as accurate as possible which only made the story more believeable and great to read. the writing in the book is very well written and its is definatly one book you will not want to put down.

But must say I did read the book after the film so I guess my opinion of the film may be a little biased as i did prefer the film, mostly due the ending of the film. Although i thought the book was great I do think that the author killing Anna was a bit of a cop out. For me personally although many will disagree Kate should ahve been the one to die. Kate needed to die in order for her family to be able to get on with their lives as the book says "kate- i dont mind my disease killing me... but its killing my family". surley writing something as true and beautiful as that showed the author that she should have been the one to die. also doesnt Kate want to die?, isnt that the whole point of Anna's court battle, to try and distract her mum and dad long enough for Kate to die in peace?

On the whole I would say it is definatly worth reading the book it is one your sure to love, but also watch the film too because in my opinion it would be benefical to see the two opposing endings

Summary: great story well worth the read
