---Book Synopsis--
Kaylee has one addiction: her very hot, very popular boyfriend, Nash. A banshee like Kaylee, Nash understands her like no one else. Nothing can come between them.
Until something does.
Demon's breath. No, not the toothpaste-challenged kind. The Netherworld kind. The kind that really can kill you. Somehow, the super-addictive substance has made its way to the human world. But how? Kaylee and Nash have to cut off the source and protect their friends--one of whom is already hooked.
And when the epidemic hits too close to home, Kaylee will have to risk everything to save those she loves.
---Review---
My soul to keep by Rachel Vincent is the third book in the rather addictive Soul Screamers series. This time around Kaylee, who is still only beginning to discover and learn about her unusual Banshee heritage has the toughest of challenges ahead of her. In the last book we learn the horrible truth about Demon's breath and the addictive qualities that it posses, and bizarrely enough it has been showing up in the least likely of places. Kaylee along with Nash and Tod have to attempt to save people that don't realise that they need to be or even want to be saved from a fate some might consider to be worse than death.
Personally, I think that My soul to keep is the best one in the series so far (I know I probably said that about My soul to save!), but this one really is my favourite to date and it is definitely a bit darker than the other Soul Screamers books so far. This book deals with some real issues of addiction, betrayal and it just proves that monsters don't just necessarily live in the Netherworld.
Like the second book (My soul to save) the Netherworld features more heavily. The Netherworld is a place that is linked to ours, but only certain supernatural beings have the power to cross back and forth. However, it is not the place that you would willing visit, as everything and everyone is out to eat you. It is a world of monsters, torture and things that only belong in the darkest of nightmares.
As with all the books in the Soul Screamers series so far the writing has been great and I just get completely drawn into the story. This was yet another book that I just didn't want to put down and I read it over a weekend. As well as the writing I think that I enjoy these books so much because of the fast paced plot and there are a whole bunch of main and minor characters that I just love.
My soul to keep certainly isn't as light a read as the other two previous books and certain aspects of it really had me cringing at the thought of what happens to certain characters. I don't want to say more for fear of giving away any spoilers. If you haven't read this book yet then I highly recommend it.
However, this is one series that you MUST read in order to get the most out of it. I really can't wait to pick up the next book in the soul screamers series, My soul to Steal, which was released in Oct 2011 here in the UK.
Rachel Vincent is really becoming a must buy author for me. I can't recommend this book and the Soul Screamer series highly enough, you won't be disappointed, I certainly wasn't.
