Nantucket Series - S.M. Sterling in general

well writen charaters with solid plots and action. very well thought out in respect to the story line with creditable heros and villians to keep you entranced. i found the historic refences to be the most enticing part of the novels as pharroh, and the other god kings deal with modern concepts and how modern man deals with being marrooned in time.

Usually when I read a novel I would like to concentrate on the characters and plot. When I read the first and last books of this series all I could do is fantasize about beating up the author. Basically the whole deal with these books is that Nantucket Island and 7000 people and a Coast Guard Boat get swept back to 1250 BC. (no explanation or speculation is ever really given about how this happened, which is OK, I mean it happens, lets get on with the story). And then the Island eventually uses technology to survive and push some sanctimonious agenda against the whole world. The only strong man with ambition and honor becomes the villian in the story. ...
