Naruto volume 28 sees the start of Naruto Shippuuden.

Naruto Shippuuden starts three years after Naruto ended. Naruto has just returned from training with Jiraiya, the toad sage and one of the three legendary sannin or as Naruto calls him pervy sage, and he discovers he has not the only one who has changed. Sakura is now a competent medical ninja and like her master Tsunade, the fifth hokage, she has incredible strength. Everyone who was at the academy with him, excluding Sasuke who left the village in search of Orochimaru, has passed the Chunin exams, Neji has even become a Jounin, meaning Naruto is the only one still a Genin.

Team 7 is now a three man cell as Sasuke has gone, however later on they gain a fourth member, the emotionless Sai whose limited knowledge about interacting with others all comes from books.

Elsewhere in the sand village, Kankuro and Temari have become Jounin and Gaara has become the Kazekage. It is Naruto's dream to become Hokage so he is slightly jealous of Gaara's achievement however this just increases his enthusiasm and determination to become Hokage.

The Akatsuki have become more active and have sent Deidara and Sasori after Gaara for his Bijuu, tailed beast. Deidara is a former member of the rock village who makes various bombs from exploding clay and Sasori is a former member of the sand village and is a puppet master who created all the puppets Kankuro now uses.

Naruto Shippuuden is just as good if not better than Naruto, it is filled with action and excitement and is a thoroughly enjoyable read.
