With this gift he is eventually reeled into an organisation known as E Branch, who want to use his ability in a fight against their opposite number in the USSR (this book was written in the 1980's so the Cold War was still in full swing). As Harry's powers grow, the obvious conflict that is approaching between E Branch and their opposite number gets closer and closer, with devestatin...more

Premium Review Necroscope - Brian Lumley: Vampires, Sex and Politics... what's not to love! (336 words)

Harry Keogh is The Necroscope. He speaks to the dead and what they tell him is beyond his wildest nightmares, that vampires stalk the earth! So Harry has a mission, to find and destroy all vampires for the good of humanity. Well that gives you an intro to the world of the Necroscope, he speaks to the dead and they love him for it, after all they have had no-one else to talk to since their death and Harry has allowed them to speak to one another. This book is superb; I cannot convey its superbness. It is by the talented author Brian Lumely, and as with most of his books it concentrates very heavily upon the supernatural in our modern world, yet for the ...

by Lady_Muck - written on 25/08/01 (Useful, 73 readings)
Rating:

The first part of an unusual and refreshing take on the vampire/necromancer mythos', told in an immensely atmospheric way by one of the best horror/thriller authors going. Lumley's characterisations remain strong all the way through the books, and although his scenes are very descriptive, they do not descend into the gore of certain other authors, he manages to get the same effect through powerful story telling and scene settings. The storyline in 'Necroscope' follows the life of a young man with a special talent, Harry Keogh can 'talk' to the dead, and as everything progresses and Keogh accepts his gift, they help him in the ...
