A fine yet horrible story (Necroscope - Brian Lumley)
Member Name: JohnC1977
Advantages: Well written, has you hanging on every word Disadvantages: Cold War tales seem dated now As of now, I have only read one of the Necroscope books. This one. A good place to start as it is the first one. It is a cracking good read - pulling absolutely no punches to the point that as a reader you can be left feeling quite uncomfortable by the experience. But I love this kind of thing and kept wanting more. The story is centred around a man called Harry Keogh, who can speak to the dead. With this gift he is eventually reeled into an organisation known as E Branch, who want to use his ability in a fight against their opposite number in the USSR (this book was written in the 1980's so the Cold War was still in full swing). As Harry's powers grow, the obvious conflict that is approaching between E Branch and their opposite number gets closer and closer, with devestating consequences. I keep meaning to get round to reading the next book but it has so far eluded me. Summary: The first of wjhat could be an amazing series |
