This is the second book in the Night's Dawn series. The whole series is a look at the progress of humanity, it's separation into two forms: The Edenists and the Adamists and the impact of an outside force. The book focuses on several protagonists and the way the war against the Night's Dawn affects their lives. Personally I liked the technology used by the Edenists (primarily biological) and the Adamists (mostly hardware).
