Sometimes in life it's best to 'Never Look Back' (Never Look Back - Lesley Pearse)
Member Name: katykicker
Advantages: Fantastic read, interesting characters, lots of twists & turns. Disadvantages: Difficult to put down at times!
'Never Look Back' follows the life of Matilda Jennings from a young child right through to the latter years of her life. Throughout the book she suffers many trials and tribulations and her life changes considerably starting off in the slums of London to living a slightly more reserved life in San Francisco. There are lots of different stages to her life and she begins life as a flower girl barely making enough to feed herself, her poor father and her two brothers who are little rouges, she then saves the life of a girl and finds herself offered a job working as household help with a clergyman and his wife and this gives her an opportunity to break away from the slums and begin to change her life. She accepts the job offer and this begins a new chapter in her life where she begins to learn about a lot of things and learns how to cook, clean & care for people in a far better way than she previously knew living in a filthy slum. Throughout life she follows the clergyman and his family and there begins a serious of events which will forever mould her life and set her on a different path such as travelling to New York, through the Wild West & ultimately on to San Francisco where she becomes a very successful businessman and along the way in her travels she meets a man, whom she falls in love with. Will everything work out for Matilda or is she just best sticking to her Father's advice of never looking back? Summary: This is a fantastic book which I found to be a very gripping read. |
