Advantages: Brillant book, well written, great plot!
Disadvantages: None
New Moon is the second book in the bestselling Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.
The book follows on from the first book Twilight, there is no specific time gap mentioned between the first and second books, but it seems as though the next school year has started because we learn that two of the characters from Twilight has left the town of Forks to supposedly go to college.
The book opens on Bella's 18th birthday, her relationship with Edward is starting to worry her, because she loves him more than life itself, but today she is now older than him and this frightens her.
Bella & Edward's relationship is still as intense as it was in the first book, but Edward is becoming more and more aware of the dangers he perceives to Bella in continuing their relationship. Bella on the other hand is completely fearless and is desperate for Edward to turn her into a vampire so that they can be together, forever.
After Bella's birthday Edward seems to become more and more distant, he eventually splits up with Bella, telling her that he and his family are leaving the area and it is best that they are no longer, he removes all traces of himself from her house 'it will be as though I never existed,' he tells her.
As Bella struggles to come to terms with the heartbreak and despair she feels, she develops a friendship with Jacob, the son of her father Charlie's friend Billy. But Jacob has secrets of his own that are every bit as frightening as Edward's.
The book is very well written, I wanted to read it all in one go, however it is a big book and it took me a bit longer than one sitting to read, but at the same time I loved the story so much I just didn't want the book to end. I'll be going to my library tomorrow to get the last two books in the series out!
The story is written so realistically that you feel as though you are there in the story, it engages the reader and it is very easy and enjoyable to read.
I wouldn't recommend starting to read the series with this book, you will miss out on many of the important links from the first book, so it would be much better to start at the beginning with Twilight.
Summary: Read Twilight first!
