And boy! – doesn’t she feed well?! The sheer fact that I have decided to review a cookbook at this moment in time says something about (the state of) my life, my mental health and my appetite. Within this, it says that I am: a, often hungry, b, often (too) tired (to be able to ‘read’ another ‘type’ or ‘genre’ of book), c, generally too food dependant at the moment. The additional sheer fact pertaining as to why I decided to review a Nigella Lawson cookbook would also hint that I: a, have less sense than time to cook this collection of recipes, b, adore good food, c, have a ... My Mum died 5 years ago & I miss her dreadfully as she was such a special person. The only thing I can say is that she wasn't the best person at present-buying so I was chuffed as heck when she bought me the 'Nigella Bites' cookery book one year for Christmas & it has always remained my favourite. I have dozens of cook books ranging from a staple, no nonsense one, through to Delia Smith, Jamie Oliver to a complicated, but really useful middle-eastern authentic recipe book - I love to cook & love cookery books. I have a good deal of respect for most of the celebrity cooks as preparing food is a science as well as an art & I ... Read the complete review

I go back a long way. As a child we didn’t have a television, although we did know someone who knew someone who had one. They offered to let me watch the Coronation but my mother was a proud woman and said that we’d arranged to have friends round for the day. In fact I was sent out to play in the back garden with strict instructions that I was not to make any noise or let anyone see me. My memory of the day is of acute boredom. Sorry, I was getting side-tracked there. You see, I remember the very early cookery programmes. By today’s standards they were amateur. I remember once seeing the cook place a pie in the “oven” to be ... Read the complete review

This woman must be superhuman! Her recipes are so simple yet tasty and unusual. Who has ever heard of ham cooked in coca-cola before? I just don’t know how she does it, Not only does she have the time to write excellent books and to have her own easy to follow and amusing television series but furthermore she has tome to look after her two children! Nigella bites is an excellent book with highly original and unusual recipes that have flair and the end results look impressive, and yet the recipes are so easy! It really is a godsend! One thing that struck me as odd about this book though is the layout. Gone is the conventional sectioning off into starters, ... Read the complete review

When I watched "Nigella Bites" for the first time on the telly a couple of days ago, I was instantly hooked. I'm not here to sing the praises of her stylish, messy, attitude to cooking in her program, I'm here to tell you that the book is wonderful. On a physical level, it feels nice, and looks nice. Under the smooth paper cover, the book's silver with the spine sort of embossed. It looks and feels like a nice book. The pages are thick, the sort that would withstand being smothered in food and wiped clean. Another thing I like about it is that it's a good size. Not too small that you lose it, but smaller than a lot of other cook books, ... Read the complete review
