I love to read Stephen kings novels, but sometimes find that I'm up past the wee small hours, trying to find out how they end. What I needed was a book filled with some of his shorter stories, and this is where Night Shift comes into it's own. Comprising of twenty short stories, each of which can easily be read within an hour or so. The Author ************* Born in Portland, Maine in 1947, Stephen King is a prolific writer, dealing mainly in the macabre. He has written many novels, both in his own name and under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Many of his novels have been adapted for the screen, and in fact a few of the stories in this book have ... Generally I dislike short stories. The Stand and IT are my two favorite Stephen King books, and both of those could be used as a door stopper quite well. When I brought this book I didn't realize that it was a short story collection, so when I got home and opened it I was really, really disappointed. When I realized I couldn't find my receipt I thought I may as well read it. I was so glad I did. This is with out a single doubt the best short story collection I have ever read. All the stories are good, ranging from scary to terrifying but the best is the title story 'Night Shift' which tells the story of a special detail at a factory. It ... Read the complete review

A spine-tingling anthology of twenty tales from the master of horror includes "The Lawnmower Man," "Children of the Corn," and "Graveyard Shift," about the loathsome creatures living beneath an old city building. In places where fear swells and blood runs cold, sinister forces and unspeakable things are working the night shift. From the depths of darkness, where hideous rats defend their empire, to dizzying heights, where a beautiful girl hangs by a hair above a hellish fate, this chilling collection of twenty short stories will plunge you into the substream labyrinth of the most spine--tingling, eerie imagination of our time. ... Night shift is a really good book. When I saw it I thought I wouldn't enjoy the stories inside because they are short stories but I have loved them more than having a book with just one long story in it. I have found that the short stories are much better because often I don't have time to read one long story and if I stop reading it then I can very rarely get started again but with these I can read one and absolutely love because there is the whole story there. I especially love the story about the man who buys roses for his girlfriend. These will not only keep you entertained for hours but I think that they are better than normal long stories and especially ... Read the complete review
