Rating:
Nightmares and Dreamscapes is above and beyond the worst Stephen King book I have ever read. King evidently needs time to develop his characters and those who appear in N+D are flimsy and underdeveloped leaving you disatisfied with the atmosphere of each story. Dissapointingly the stories are unconnected to each other and lack direction, I got the feeling that each was written to use up and put to rest one literary idea of King's. Unlike his better novels this was an effort to read and didn't flow or sit together well, some of the stories were just plain odd and the rest were not up to King's usual standard. A very entertaining group of short stories that range from a pair of harmless jokes, novelty clockwork teeth turning into man-eaters and reeking havoc, to the Nevada desert swallowing a whole Cadillac . My favourite short story is called “the moving finger” which comically lives in Vi and Havie Mitla’s bathroom plumbing, it increasingly teases Havie and disappointingly for Hawie seems to disappear whenever Vi needs to use the bathroom. Poor Hawie understandably thinks he’s going mad, but is he? A must read for anyone with a short attention span. Short stories are always a relief when being a back seat driver with boring company. ...
