This is the book that gave us,
Big Brother is watching and
Room 101.
We follow Winston Smith who whilst living in this futuristic society, (when it was written) longs for something more and begins to wonder if it's all true. Is there really a war going on, is he really always under scrutiny, why can he have no freedom of speech.
Dangerous thoughts lead to dangerous actions and getting involved with a mysterious woman can only lead to disaster. The thought police really do exist as Winston is about to find out.
The oppression in society and of its people can really be felt in this book. It is superbly written and relayed to the reader. The total control and domination over the populace is quite ghastly and breath taking.
The build up to the inevitable awful conclusion is gripping. Room 101 is not a torture room in the truest sense more a torture of the senses.
And like today Big Brother is always watching; don't be fooled into thinking he's not because he is always watching YOU!!
Written by George Orwell.
Very highly recommended.
Summary: Room 101 is truly awful!
