Advantages: Really well written

Disadvantages: Bleak

Welcome to 1984 as George Orwell predicted it to be, where Britain is a vast dictatorship where thought police monitor your every move, watch your every facial expression and check your every word.
Say the wrong thing? 25 years in a forced labour camp, that's if you don't get sentenced to room 101 and the death penalty.
Pull the wrong facial expression when the government give you good news? (even if you know this news is incorrect) room 101 for you!
Love does not exist, sex is purely for reproducing and when you do have children they are so deprived of love, and so brainwashed from such a young age that they have no issue with dobbing their parents in to the authorities for speaking ill or sarcastically of the government.
In this bleak time, Winston, a man of simple pleasures which are never ever met who works monotonously, finds love in someone he never expected.
He also finds the opportunity to bring down the fascist government, or does he?
Everything is so confusing.
In a time where keeping a diary is punishable by death, will Winston succeed to get some form of sanity back in his life?

Summary: A fantastic book everyone should read once.
