It's the year of the Silver Jubilee and The Yorkshire Ripper is abroad putting the fear of god into working girls up and down the county. Copper Bob Fraser begins to suspect that more than one killer is at large but finds himself hampered by his superiors and his relationship with one of the Chapelfield prostitutes. Former Yorkshire Crime Reporter Of The Year and washed-up hack, Jack Whitehead, also has his suspicions but he too is obsessed with the working girls in the area and has personal demons of his own to face that are never fully or satisfyingly explained.
