Great start to a new multi-volume saga by this author. Fans of Vincenzi will enjoy the fast pace, and racy style of this novel, which can stand alone, although the ending does leave us wanting to read on. Good coverage of the effects of the First World War on family life, particularly women, and of the class divide. Well- researched, the novel also shows the massive consequences that the First world War had on society as a whole, in particular the feminist movement and the lives of women. The novel can be taken either as a light read, or on a deeper level, but all in all a great summer read. ...
