I wanted to read this book because it's set in the Highlands, and as I live there I'm always intrigued to see how the place is portrayed in fiction books. 40 something Trisha lives in Glasgow and is about to return to her previous job as a pharmaceutical rep after the death of her mother and the breakdown of her marriage. She's lonely, bordering on alcoholism, missing her teenage son who lives with his father, and is insanely jealous of her ex-husband, Bob's, new woman, the reviled Norwegian Helga.
