I love this book. it has to be one of my all time favourite stories, one of the ones you read over and over again. You may have come across the film by the same name, which was quite true to the sotry. I'd recommend reading the book anyway, as it contains a wealth of details which you may well miss in the film. You'll end up feeling even fonder of the characters it introduces you. I have a really ancient, decrepit paperback copy. I'd like to think its just well-loved, with its rumpled yellowing pages, and its well creased spine.
