Being a big fan of CONNOLLY and this being the only one of his books I had not read, I recently saw this second-hand and thought I'd give it a go. Written between the novels THE WHITE ROAD and THE BLACK ANGEL, the book is a collection of spine-chilling tales framed by a pair of novellas- the first about a typhoid-mary cowboy who spreads foul disease wherever he goes, the second about a haunted house featuring fan favourite, Charlie Parker. The rest of the stories are a macabre collection that bear much resemblence to the short-story writing of the late Richard Laymon crossed with a modern-day M.R.James.
