This is another in a series of Alex Delaware thrillers; not surprisingly, the series hero shares much of writer Jonathan Kellerman's own background; Kellerman himself is a clinical psychologist. The books focus on Delaware's involvement with the Los Angeles police, helping to solve crimes, not just a profiler but getting much more deeply enmeshed with the case, the victims and criminals than a physiologist normally would.
