Orpheus Rising - Colin Bateman

Crowned Review Author's Talent Rising (847 words)
by samueltyler - written on 26/08/08 (Very useful, 102 readings)
Rating:

Thankfully not all authors fail here, some reinvigorate themselves and once more show the world their talent. I am glad to say that with Orpheus Rising Colin Bateman just may have reinvented himself as a more mature and intelligent author. Michael Ryan is the author of Space Coast a sensation that rocked the US ten years ago. The book tells the story of a small town and it was based on Michael s real life. However, in the early days of the book being published a tragedy shook Michael s life when his wife, Claire, was shot dead during a bank robbery. Now Michael is preparing to return to the small town he once lived in after ten years to explore the past. This ...

Belfast Confidential - Colin Bateman

Crowned Review An elephant in Antrim (869 words)
by freediveheaven - written on 01/03/07 (Very useful, 217 readings)
Rating:

This is the seventh book in the series from Colin Bateman following the exploits of Belfast journalist Dan Starkey. For those who have not read any of the previous books I would not recommend starting with this one as the character is quite well developed by now and it would be better to start off with reading Divorcing Jack which is the first in the series. The Plot The opening of the book finds Starkey moving in to a new house with his longsuffering wife Patricia. His best mate Mouse is also with him supposedly helping out however in reality all he succeeds in doing is killing next doors cat. Having buried the dead moggie the two soon find themselves in a pub getting ...

Premium Review Please make it into a film! (1637 words)
by hugon - written on 30/05/01 (Very useful, 82 readings)
Rating:

after exchanging it for a book, which I was given for my birthday, which I already had. I didn’t really know what to expect – I hadn’t ever heard of Colin Bateman before, and the only thing I knew was that someone had told me Divorcing Jack was a very funny film. I decided to take a chance on something I hadn’t heard of before, and I’m glad I did. *MINOR SPOLIER ALERT – some of the plot given away, but nothing to spoil enjoyment of book, just to give you a good impression of the story* As I mentioned before, the central character is Dan Starkey, a thirty-something journalist from Belfast. He is given the task of writing a book on ...
