Advantages: Simple story and illustrations, lots of opportunity for a child to join in

Disadvantages: As with any flap book, the flaps don't last forever!

This is a great book for children, one that we have read again and again. This is one of the first books that my children started to enjoy at around 1 year, and my 4 year old still reads it now. In the story, Buster goes around the farm to all the different animals looking for eggs. Eventually he finds them in the chicken coop!

Rod Campbell has quite a simple style of illustration that children seem to love. Each page has a flap to lift up so that you can see which animal is there. The phrase 'No eggs here, Oh dear!' occurs on each page, so it's a great book for young children who are learning to talk to join in with. It's a good book for practising your farm animal noises as well! There are lots of other things to look for on each page, for example a little mouse drinking from the dog's waterbowl, and some rabbits playing under a hedge.

I love Rod Campbell's books, and this is one of my favourites. It's not too long so you won't get too bored reading it at your child's bedtime. I find I can read it with my eyes shut now, which is good when you've been up since 5am!

Summary: This is one to buy for your child's library.
