Advantages: Great character development

Disadvantages: Tragic End

I picked up this book because it was by Ian McEwan, who also wrote Atonement, which i loved, it was about chesil beach, which is my favourite place, so these to together got my interest.

The book centres on a couple, who are very similar, yet very different and tells the story from two different perspectives, and it is dynamic, fun and interesting. Both characters are so diverse and the development of them is fantastic. I was able to imagine these two characters and how they were thinking and be able to rationalise with them.

The story follows how the couple got married and about their first night together, but the majority of the book deals with how they met and what made them who they are, and their worries, fears, embarassments- all of which lead to their tragic end.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book, the narrative, the descriptions, and especially the end, which is tragic. I borrowed this from a library, but it can be bought for under £10 at major book stores.

Summary: Great read!
