My dad introduced me to birdwatching when I was about 15 but before that I'd always been a bit of a nature nerd too. I was a conservationist from a very early age and I felt like it was my duty to protect wildlife and their habitats. It was no surprise really that I found a hero in Bill Oddie, an intelligent guy who had taught me a lot about birds and nature and who was also highly entertaining and sometimes a little bit controversial. I am not a fan of autobiographies. I always imagine they will be either very dull - a list of facts and figures drawn from ancient history - or the sensationalist fluff of a tabloid favourite.
