The events in Lisa Jewell’s latest novel, "One Hit Wonder", begin with the death of one time pop star and media darling Bee Bearhorn, who has been found dead in a seedy rented flat in a not terribly nice area of London. Having cut herself off from her family after a fierce argument at her father ’s funeral, no-one realises ... Read the complete review

I will admit right at the beginning that this isn’t the type of book I would normally read, however it was a prize in a competition so I figured what the heck, I was going to read it anyway! ;) Now while there is nothing wrong with the book specifically, and I know its a book by a women for women so its not something I should ... I was totally absorbed in this book and got completely wrapped up in it and I found myself thinking about it and the characters during the time I wasn't ... Read the complete review

I have always felt that I can rely on Lisa Jewell to provide me with a good dose of chick lit - ideal for the dreary train ride in and out of college. One Hit Wonder was no exception but one cannot deny that Jewell had intended the book to hit readers a lot harder than it was ever going to. Bee Bearhorn is found dead in her London flat ... It becomes apparent from the early stages of One Hit Wonder that this is sort of a 'whodunit'. I say 'sort of', because one-hit-wonder singer Bee Bearhorn has by all accounts committed suicide. However, her half-sister, Ana, and best friends Lol and Flint find it hard to believe that anyone as outgoingly strong and confident as Bee ... Read the complete review
