I have been a massive fan of paige toon from day one and I make sure to read every book including this one!
One perfect summer tells the story of Alice and Joe who met when Alice is away with her mum on a break before she leaves to go off to university but unfortunately unforseen circumstances with Joe's family mean in the space of six weeks they've managed to fall in love and break each other's hearts but not down to their own choice.
The book then follows the life of Alice and all the issues she's endures right down to trying to find her way back to Joe.
This book is just a brilliant heart warming chick lit that I'd recommend to anyone! Paige toons writing really captures you and once you've started the book you'll find you won't put it down until you've reached the end!!
If you love a brilliant read then this will not disappoint you
Ever since I read her debut novel, Lucy In The Sky back in 2007,Paige Toon became one of my favourite authors. Since then I have read every single one of her books. I recently read her most recent book; One Perfect Summer, a chick-lit novel which was released in the United Kingdom in 2012. The book is currently available to buy from Amazon for a price of £3.85.
~ * Plot (as it appears on Amazon) * ~
'Do you still love him?' Every second of every minute of every hour of every day...Alice is18 and about to start university while Joe's life is seemingly going nowhere. A Dorset summer, a chance meeting, and the two of them fall into step as if they have known each other forever. But their idyll is shattered, suddenly, unexpectedly. Alice heads off to Cambridge and slowly picks up the pieces of her broken heart. Joe is gone; she cannot find him. When she catches the attention of Lukas - gorgeous, gifted, rich boy Lukas - she is carried along by his charm, swept up in his ambitious plans for a future together. Then Joe is there, once more, but out of reach in a way that Alice could never have imagined. Life has moved on, the divide between them is now so great. Surely it is far too late to relive those perfect summer days of long ago?
I found the book to be highly addictive. I just could not put it down as I just kept having to turn the page. It's the kind of book which just makes you want more. I thought that the plot was an interesting one - I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
I thought that the characters in this book were good one. I liked Alice, the main character as she was nice and normal and easy to connect with. I liked the fact that the story is written in the first person and from Alice's perspective as it meant that I felt as though I got to know Alice really well as everything was happening through her eyes. I also liked Joe as I felt really sorry for him.
Just like Paige Toon's other novels, this book too is also beautifully written. The writing just flows smoothly. The descriptive writing brings the story alive without going into too much detail - this is good as it means that the reader can picture the scenes perfectly, yet there is room left for them to use their own imagination which is good. Well done Paige.
I would definetely recommend this book!
Thanks for reading!
I have read every one of Paige Toon's books, and when I saw her new book out in Tesco's a few months ago, I just couldn't wait to get home to read it! I was not disappointed, this book is by far one of Paige's best.
The title and front cover gives away that its a romantic story, and a chick lit book, so I knew I was going to love it, this is all I ever read! This book really stuck with me for weeks, and there is a really sad part, involving a dog called Dyson! I just cried my eyes out, it was so sad!
The two main characters of the book are Alice and Joe, in the beginning. They meet whilst Alice is on a break with her Mum for a few weeks before she goes off to university. She meets Joe in a local pub where he works, and they soon start bumping into each other in the small village where he lives. Joe is treated really badly by his family, he has been beaten up and threatened by his family for years, they do not care about him, but he has no where else to go.
When he meets Alice, finally someone cares for him in his life, and I really warmed to Joe, he was lovely. Alice is a lovely girl too and easy to relate to and like. Alice and Joe get together pretty quickly after meeting each other and become serious straight away. They spend all their time together for weeks before something happens with Joe's evil brother, and he has no other choice but to leave before he gets caught. Alice hopes Joe will come back for her one day, she is devastated but is forced to get on with her life.
The book moves on through years of Alice's life, she goes to university as planned, meets someone else eventually, Lucas, who was not a likeable character when you just warm to Joe so much in the beginning of the book. Alice wonders one day if she will ever see Joe again, until one day she finally finds him, but he is so out of reach! The story goes on to follow Alice trying to reach out to Joe, and how her past comes to catch up with her.
I won't say any more, just read this book! It is so well written, funny at times, and so heart breaking at times too. Paige Toon's writing style is brilliant at making you really connect with the characters, relate to them, and I really missed a few of them when I finished the book! Even though it is a chick lit and you can usually guess what happens in love stories, this one really keeps you guessing throughout the book, and things don't happen the way you think they will! It kept me gripped the whole way through and I can't wait for her next book! Definitely give this a go if you are a fan of Paige Toon!
I have read all of Paige Toon's books and loved every one of them. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of One Perfect Summer and when I went into my local bookstore and see it was the last copy so it looks like I wasn't the only one eager for this book to come out!
This is my favourite cover of Paige Toon's books, it is quite simplistic and yet still eye-catching and instantly recognisable as one of Paige Toons.
Alice is taking a break in Dorset for the Summer with her mum before she goes off to university. The last thing Alice expects is to fall in love in her six week break but her heart is taken the moment she meets Joe in the local Devon pub. Their relationship grows over the six weeks but a tornado of events happen which see's the couple ripped apart and Alice is heartbroken as her holiday is cut short, she wonders if she will ever find Joe again.
Nursing her broken heart with the help of new friend Jessie, Alice begins to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and starts to build a life attending university and it's not long before a new love interest tries to win her heart but will Alice be able to put her thoughts and feelings for Joe aside and start her new life with Lucas?
This book had my full attention from the first chapter, there is something about Paige Toons writing style that draws you in from the moment we meet her characters.
Alice was easy to warm to she is a very gentle and loveable character and she leaves a lasting impression even after the book finishes and I think this is because when we first meet Alice she is only 18 and experiencing her first serious relationship which we can all relate to. The book then jumps through the years of her life and we see her growing up.
I loved Joe's character too. His circumstances when we are introduced to him make his character feel vulnerable and we instantly want to care for him and hope that there are positive changes coming soon for him. When Alice and Joe parted I really missed his character, I was hoping we would move to Joe's story at some point early on in the book so we could see what he was doing at the same time as Alice but none the less I still enjoyed the book I think it probably kept you turning the pages with the suspense of needing to know what happens to him.
I really didn't warm to Lucas and I struggled to see what Alice saw in him he was very controlling and he seemed to just be competing with his ex rather than taking Alice's feelings into account.
I would say this is one of my favourite Paige Toon boos but I would love to shake this author! She really does like to leave the reader hanging. As it was coming to the end I couldn't wait to see how thing panned out but no wait for it....... there is to be a sequel to One Perfect Summer, Paige Toon what are you doing to me how will I sleep tonight!
This is a great read which will have you speeding through the pages and sitting on the edge of your seat. A must read by Paige Toon.
