I am not into reading, and you may discover this through the sheer weight of my reviews that will be on other categories other than books. So, for me to be sitting here reviewing this book makes it special. This is my kind of book. If you are of the younger generation and enjoy these kinds of interesting books about personal experiences, then you will love this book. It is an amazing story of a Canadian who traded up from a standard size red paper clip to a house! Kyle Macdonald was his name. He was in desperate need of a job living on the low side of life. He was at the stage of life where he really wanted his own house, but couldn't possibly afford one ... Read the complete review

The book "One Red Paperclip" is the true story of how Kyle MacDonald traded one, simple, little, red paperclip and kept trading until he ended up with a house, exactly one year later. Isn't that amazing? Of course, some might be appalled by this – trading junk, until you get something of real value, might seem to be a cheap trick. Those who struggled to buy our homes might feel Kyle cheated to get what others sweated for. But it takes gumption, nay, chutzpah to actually attempt this, let alone actually make it happen. Travel and reading are my passions, so books like this are a winner every time with me. This is a fascinating story about a man who is on the verge of losing his home and girlfriend, when he decides to trade from 'One Red Paperclip' to a house, in a year, based on a game he attempted to play when he was a child. He travels around Canada and America, making trades and quickly becomes famous in the meantime. The game is called 'bigger and better' and you basically take one item (in this case the red paperclip) and contiually trade it up for something bigger and better. I won't spoil the story by telling you all of the trades, but some of them are very impressive, ... Read the complete review

Books for people who don't do books... That's my kind of book - Not your usual sensible offering, but an off the wall account of a man and his dream, a dream to do something. Around Halloween time, Canadians play a game of trade up as part of trick or treat. Who can trade useless crap for some less useless crap in an evening? Kyle MacDonald took that concept to the max, deciding to try and trade up a paperclip (sorry, a red paperclip) for a house within 12 months. This book is for all those people like me who believe in the power to change your circumstances just by following a crazy dream, most of us never fulfill that dream, but Kyle was different... he ...
