For anyone going inter-railing this summer, this book is an absolute must. Running to a hefty 544 pages, it lists all rail timetables and some bus and ferry timetables for very nearly every country in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. The timetables are (usually) easy enough to follow; each route is given a separate number and marked on a map at the start of each country's section, so you know exactly where to look for times between your destinations. The 'independent traveller's' edition that I bought (from Amazon) also gives some invaluable information and advice. It lists various facts about each country listed in the timetables, such as ... Yes that is the real title of this book…. Meet Peter. That’s Peter Moore. Australian. Older than your average backpacker and yet that is indeed what he does. He travels from place to place – mainly in 3rd world countries – writing the odd piece to finance himself as he goes. This book is one of those pieces, or rather a collection of them. A cross between „The Virgin Now Boarding“ and „The Top 10 Of Everything“, this is a travel guide with a difference. As it says on the cover, this is the book for “when you’ve really lost it”. This is a guide book for nowhere and, at the same time, ... Read the complete review

I have only read the Footprint handbook on Singapore, but if the others are of the same standard then I totally recommend these guidbooks, and would say this would be the one to get if you are only going to buy one. There are no glossy pictures like the AA guides or insight guides, but consequently the book is a nice slim volume which is excellent for taking with you will sightseeing. The detail the book goes into is amazing, and it has features that i have not come across in other guidebooks. One of these is that it lists the shopping malls available with a detailed map of where they are, but also tells you exactly which shops or type of shop are in ... Read the complete review

HOTELS AND GUESTHOUSES ILLUSTRATED GUIDE If you are intending to go to Ireland for a week-end or even longer this book is brilliant. Everything you need to know is here from road maps and even golf and Angling facilities are included. It is layed out really well in colour coded sections county by county and covers all hotels from expensive to very reasonable ones, it even lists guest houses but most of these would be outside major towns so you would need to be mobile. It rates each accomm. and gives you an index to locations where the nearest tourist information centre is and a freephone Central Reservation number to book or query. This is ...
