Advantages: Incredible detail

Disadvantages: None

I have only read the Footprint handbook on Singapore, but if the others are of the same standard then I totally recommend these guidbooks, and would say this would be the one to get if you are only going to buy one.

There are no glossy pictures like the AA guides or insight guides, but consequently the book is a nice slim volume which is excellent for taking with you will sightseeing.

The detail the book goes into is amazing, and it has features that i have not come across in other guidebooks. One of these is that it lists the shopping malls available with a detailed map of where they are, but also tells you exactly which shops or type of shop are in which mall, which allows you not to waste time going in and finding out for yourself.

It is also the only guidebook (for singapore at least) that i have come across that lists bus routes, train stations and admission prices for all the attractions which is immensley useful.

The guide is also split up into a more practical way , rather than shopping, accomodation, sightseeing , restaurants etc that most guidebooks do, Footprints splits up the guide into areas of the city or destination, thus you can pick an area and find out where to stay, what to eat, and what to see, making planning your itinerary for your holiday an awful lot easier.

The line drawing maps in the guide are also useful, they may be simple and fairly small but they give you exactly what you need and detail the shops and sites on the map very clearly.

They have a website at www.footprint-handbooks.co.uk, although i have not checked this out myself it will probably list all the destinations that they do guides for.

well obviously Travelnotes, i'm sure the other guides feature the things relevant to the country they are talking about, they are travel guide books not shopping guide books so are pretty unlikely to feature shopping heavily in a place like Peru.

As Singapore is a large shopping centre in the tropics, Im sure the shopping plan came in handy. I would hope their guides don't have the same detail for places like Peru. Not everyone travels to shop. Great review.
