Advantages: Very comprehensive, clear information

Disadvantages: None!

For anyone going inter-railing this summer, this book is an absolute must. Running to a hefty 544 pages, it lists all rail timetables and some bus and ferry timetables for very nearly every country in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. The timetables are (usually) easy enough to follow; each route is given a separate number and marked on a map at the start of each country's section, so you know exactly where to look for times between your destinations.

The 'independent traveller's' edition that I bought (from Amazon) also gives some invaluable information and advice. It lists various facts about each country listed in the timetables, such as visa / passport information, currency restrictions and how to 'phone home; it gives information about the various rail passes that are available, Europe-wide; it gives hints on what to take with you, and on where to stay.

In short, this book should be the bible of your travels: it contains everything you need to know. I can't recommend it enough.
