Newest Review: ... I hadn't come across before, but which was dealt with in such a way as to be entirely convincing. The characters are a fantastic mix - there are of course the ubiquitous "goodies" and "baddies" but there are also characters which are greyer - you know they're kind of bad, but you're drawn in to their hopes and fears, and come to care for them somewhat. ... more |

I really enjoyed Tad William's previous trilogy-in-four parts (is there a word for that? A quadrology? Who knows!) The Dragonbone Chair, so I was delighted when this series came out, and I wasn't disappointed. Far from it in fact. There are many writers I enjoy, but I often find that another book by the same author is very similar in style and sometimes content to previous ones (Terry Pratchett being a classic example). This is not a bad thing in itself - at least you can be pretty sure you'll like the new one, but it can start to feel like you're never getting anything new. This series of books might not be suited to everyone. I do know a few odd people who don't like to read a story which goes on and on. Personally I believe that the longer the story, the better. There are one or two disadvantages to this. The first one being that you are even more disappointed than normal when the story ends, and the scond being that you have to wait ages for the books to be published (particularly if you are too stingy to buy the hard back ones like me!). I might still be very disappointed when i have finished this series, but judging by the story so far, I don't think I will. Tad Williams creates a very realistic world ...

Otherland is one of the best books of its kind that I have ever read. I read the first book on a recommendation by a friend and when I first saw how long it was I started to think that the story might seem drawn out and boring, however it isn't, the story seemed interesting throughout the entire book and I think I read the book as fast as I would read a book 1/2 it's length. After reading the first book I immedietely bought the second, but after reading that I was disappointed to find that the remaining books had not yet been written, luckily it was only a 2 week wait to get the third book which I bought in hardback rather than waiting like normal for the ...
