Advantages: enjoyable, informative, based on the playmaker

Disadvantages: not suitable for children, does have some graphic material of a sexual and violent nature, may not be to everyones taste

Reading through other opinions on the net about this play I got mixed opinions about it but having read it for my theatre studies a level there is one word I can use to describe it. That word is Brilliant. Although the story line may seem basic... that it is a play about a group of exiled prisoners who put on a play it is more than that. Scratch bellow the surface and you see it has subtexts of
-the redemptive power of the theatre
-friendships
-loyalty
--betrayal and jealousy

And that’s just to name a few. I personally thought that this play was going to be boring but it was anything but. The blossoming relationship between both Mary and Ralph and Harry and Duckling show that no matter what aspect of society you start of with things can change for the better. And the wonderful scenes with Harry seeing the ghosts from his past are both deliciously disturbing and wonderfully comic. My personal favourite characters were Liz, Sideway, Ralph and Collins which I believe represents change.
Having both read and performed in a version of this play I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone though I would issue a word of warning it may not be suitable for everyone depending on the director’s interpretation of the violence and sexual material the play has.
