I'm a big kid at heart and I still adore fairy tales. So when someone told me that "Out of Breath" by Julie Myserson is essentially a fairy tale for adults, I knew I had to read it. And I wasn't disappointed, although this is definitely the kind of fairy tale that could give you nightmares. It's essentially a coming of age novel, but is quite unlike any I've read before. The story is told in first person and the prose has a beautiful haunting quality to it, as if you know that something dark is going to happen. It had me hooked from the moment I read the first line.
